You'll squat, hinge, push, pull and carry. Everything runs in blocks: a set to the chorus, a rest to the next intro, then again.
Dumbbells, kettlebells and bands are already at your spot. The coach picks your starting weight on the first day and changes it whenever you want. Going lighter is a normal part of the class.
Hips, shoulders and spine, plus the first light set so the movements are already familiar when the load goes up.
Squats, deadlifts, lunges and step-ups. The biggest muscles first, while you're freshest.
Press, row, carry and hold. Slower tempo, heavier feel, shorter rests than the block before.
One short round of everything at once while the last track plays, then down to the mat to open the hips and breathe.
Lifting weights gives you the confidence of knowing your body can handle what the day puts in front of it.
You walk out warm, and the tiredness turns up later, in the good way.
Then this is a good day to start. The first class is mostly about finding out where your body goes, with the lightest weights in the room.
Everything is programmed and laid out before you arrive. Nothing to plan, nothing to queue for, nobody to ask.
Muscle is the half that quietly looks after your bones and your balance. Twice a week is enough to feel the difference.
Say so at the door, or say nothing at all. Either way the coach will keep your weights light for the first few weeks.
Trainers with a flat sole and a water bottle. Weights, bands and mats are already at your spot. Come ten minutes early on your first visit and the coach will walk you round.
